Chung, he should have just come out and said, “Yes, we pushed for Valerie Jarrett. She would be an exceptional United States senator. Unfortunately, in discussions with the governor it became clear that he was making unethical requests and wanted special favors which we were obviously unwilling to offer him.”
Instead, Obama initially lied and said that they were going to be “hands off”, when in fact he had Rahm Emanuel pushing for Jarrett behind the scenes.
If the tapes of Emanuel are leaked or released it may turn out that Obama’s team was actually willing to play ball with Blago, but from the governor’s conversations with others it appears that he was upset because Obama’s team was not willing to.

I guess those “distractions” Obama dismissed during the campaign were a sign of things to come. Who would have guessed?
