Who is Renaldo Lapuz?
….
Lapuz appeared on an “American Idol” episode last week during the show’s Dallas, Texas auditions. He was dressed in a white ensemble which included white boots, white pants, a white furry jacket and a white cowboy hat covered with feathers which bore the name “Simon.” He also donned a shimmering metallic cape complete with shoulder pads. Lapuz said he gained inspiration for the shoulder pads from the movie “Gladiator,” according to a TV interview he had with a local Austin, Texas station.

When asked by judges Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell why he had the name “Simon” emblazoned on his hat, he explained that it was a tribute to judge Simon Cowell.

“Everyone, everywhere as long as there’s print media, television, radio—everyone speaks the name of Simon,” he explained to the judges.

Appearing before host Ryan Seacrest, Lapuz announced that his wish was to become an inspiration for people everywhere.

“If I were an American Idol, then I would give hope to those who are in despair and to be tough—to be strength,” he said.

Lapuz sang a song he said he had written himself, entitled “We’re Brothers Forever”:

“I am your brother
Your best friend forever
Singing the songs
The music that you like
We’re brothers ‘til the end of time
Together forever ‘til the end of time
I am your brother
Your best friend forever
Singing the songs
The music that you like
We’re brothers ‘til the end of time
Together or not, you’re always in my heart
Your hurting feelings
Will reign no more.”

[though ineligible because of his age] Lapuz seemed thankful for the opportunity to audition on “American Idol.”

“Simon, you are a great person, you give chance to everyone to sing to the whole world,” Lapuz said. “You are heaven’s chosen to give chance to any talent for free of charge, even they throw you negative words. There are many people who really like you, who admire you—one of them is me. You’re a great person, Simon.” [source]

  1. Its actually a little touching there at the end. This guy just doesn’t get it…but his heart is good.

American Idol thrives a little bit too much on making fun of people toward the front end of their seasons though…

  2. Paul

Unfortunately, after watching the whole clip, I found his little song rather catchy. I feel so sappy.
